I’ve been contemplating using this format as a quasi-travel journal in addition to the trip guides and informative posts that I also will be using. So, with that……
My Wife and I have been trying to decide where to go for our 10 yar anniversary this year (what?! Holy bananas 10 years), and we had previously only thought we would be going to Bali. But lately, we had backed off that idea some. We finally got down to actually starting to plan it and narrowed the field from literally anywhere to 3 finalists; Indonesia (not just Bali, specifically), Cyprus, and Phuket, Thailand. Here’s what we discussed on these destinations.
The Candidates
Indonesia – Probably our winner, in fact I’ve told my Wife it is my choice already. We really want a more chill vacation, and not so much full bore go this trip and it seems to fit the bill. We definitely want to see the electric blue lava, outside of that we don’t yet specifically have anything we have to see.

Cyprus – Sunshine brother, glorious sunshine. Love the mix of old world Europe, the Mediterranean, and middle eastern influences. Cyprus really appeals to the inner laze about in us. We could sit on an old building top and stare at the ocean for a long time.

Phuket – Definitely Phuket just because come on. I’m a boy and it’s funny. Thailand has appealed to me for a long time. We had an AFS (exchange service) student, stay with us for a week when I was in high school. His name was Ping and he was awesome and well hilarious, and so much better spoken than I could ever hope to be. But ever since then I have been extremely curious about Thai culture and food. Then my personal Travel and culinary Idol, Anthony Bourdain reignited that flame for Thailand when he visited on his shows, “Parts Unknown). Some of the food he ate was so different than my palette has ever had or even thought was possible.

On all these fronts we also talked about flight prices on average, rental or hotel prices, and cost of food and travel for each day. We have not yet gotten down to brass tacks of what we do or don’t want to do and a budget for activities/souvenirs/general fun.
If anyone reads this or enjoys it, or both. Please leave a comment just to share your thoughts on the pros and cons of our listees.
That’s all for now. Safe travels and happy reading!
Warm Regards,
